If you were searching for a word that described what modern home decor was - that word would be: simplicity. But simple does not mean dull, and contemporary decor with its clean lines, neutral color palette and geometric contours is anything but dull. Instead, contemporary home decor is often be warm, inviting and totally stylish. But how do you acquire a modern aesthetic in your home? It isn't as straightforward as walking into a shop and picking items that have clean lines. There's a bit more to it, but there are some basic principles which should be considered. The first idea is simplicity. We're not suggesting your room to simply be four walls and a seat for sitting, we are not going to that extreme, however you'll want to keep things as uncluttered as possible. Various studies have shown that clutter can lead to anxiety on your lifetime so keeping your decoration simple will help alleviate a few of the stresses of modern life. The second idea of contemporary home decor is practicality. Not only should your rooms be simple with those clean lines and minimal artwork and accessories, but it should also be functional. This varies considerably from room to room but if you enter a room, it should be easy to find and use the various items inside. A final point to consider if you are going with a modern decor, is to go for lots of open space in your home. This might be impossible in some houses that provide closed rooms instead of an open idea but you can still make efforts towards this with the appropriate use of colour, fabrics and furniture.
